UN Summit of the Future postponed to 2024

'The world is lurching from crisis to crisis, trapped in a cycle of firefighting and unable to tackle the roots of the troubles that confront us.' These are the conclusions from a UN report released in October 2022 by the Secretary General.

The expert panel behind the report are expected to present concrete recommendations on strengthening global governance in early 2023 and recognise and that governments are slow to implement sustainability commitments as efforts have been hampered by Covid-19, increasing poverty levels and energy crisis that face many nations. These recommendations will guide the UN Summit of the Future negotiations which is also thought to bring significant changes to international cooperation frameworks. The conclusions have already impacted on UN plans as it decided to postpone the Summit until 2024 given the seriousness of the issues faced.’
