Thursday 11th March, saw the launch of the Futures Forward Academy, an initiative of Office of the Commissioner for Sustainable Development and Future Generations, that seeks to engage young people in making changes for a more sustainable future. A videoclip was played at the launch event which captured the spirit of the programme and announced the names of the 2021 Future Makers.


The launch, convened by the Gibraltar American Chamber of Commerce, took place virtually and was preceded by a talk from Juan Verde on “The Biden Administration: Climate and Leadership Agenda” . Mr Verde highlighted the new energy around the UK-US relationship and plans for a far-reaching climate partnership. The Minister for Sustainability, Prof John Cortes, celebrated the ambi-tions of our young people, committed to supporting the Academy and thanked the Commissioner, Prof Daniella Tilbury, for establishing this innovative programme.


Messages of support for the Future Makers were sent by the UNECE Chief of Environment and Sustain-ability, Geneva as well as the UN Secretary General’s Youth Envoy, New York. The event attracted over 115 registrations for over 16 different countries including Germany, Belgium, Morocco, Israel, Italy, Denmark, Colombia, Lebanon, Spain, UK and the US.
