Gibraltar Sustainability Awards

The Gibraltar Sustainability Awards

The Gibraltar Sustainability Awards provide a means of recognising sustainability commitment and sharing examples of best practice.

Communities have been challenged by the UN to solve the world’s toughest sustainability challenges by 2030. We all have a role to play in making a difference and taking steps for a better future.

The Awards acknowledge the good work that is taking place to address these challenges and seek to extend the adoption of sustainability. A Sustainability Awards event night and an ‘active’ webpage provide the platforms for achieving these goals.

Q. WHY enter the Gibraltar Sustainability Awards?

The Awards provide recognition of sustainability best practice in Gibraltar and a reward for your sustainability journeyIt is important to celebrate achievement but also to scale-up the adoption of sustainability. By entering the Awards you are showcasing your efforts as well as encouraging others to engage with this important commitment.

Q. WHAT do the Awards recognise?

The awards recognise efforts that seek to address sustainability in our community and beyond. Although often mistaken to be solely about environmental concerns, sustainability is centred upon quality of life issues that affect both people and planet.

The award categories recognise different thematic or sector entry points.   These are informed by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which include themes related to:

  • Health and wellbeing;
  • Biodiversity, climate, environment and nature protection;
  • Socio-economic issues incl: alleviating poverty and hunger;
  • Addressing gender and social inequalities;
  • Circular economy, sustainable consumption
  • Just and inclusive institutions
  • Education, learning and partnerships

If you are working on any of these themes, these awards may be relevant to you. Regardless of your entry point, the judges will be looking to see that you are adopting a sustainability perspective by connecting social, environmental and economic concerns so that the root causes and long-term solutions can be identified.
