Commissioner Elected to the Bureau of UNECE Environment Committee
Our Commissioner was elected to the Bureau of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Steering Committee on Environment (Education for Sustainable Development). Prof Tilbury is the UK government focal point on this Committee and has responsibility for leading the Quality strand of the expert group's new strategic plan. The new plan is to be adopted in May 2021 at a meeting to be held at the Palais de Nations, Geneva. Over the coming months, Prof Tilbury will be engaging with government and NGO representatives across Europe to map plans and agree indicators of progress.
Due to Covid19 travel restrictions, the Committee met virtually in December 2020 to vote in the new Bureau. The latter has responsibilty, together with the Chair of the Committee, for leading education efforts to advance the SDGs in Europe over its two year term.
