Commission Announcement: Learning for Sustainability
On the 14th January, the Commission published a Council Recommendation on learning for environmental sustainability. The recommendation supports Member States, schools, higher education institutions, non-governmental organisations and all education providers in equipping learners with understanding and skills on sustainability, climate change and the environment.
A new European competence framework on sustainability published by the Joint Research Centre, was also made available on the same date. This maps out the competences needed for the green transition, including critical thinking, initiative-taking, respecting nature and understanding the impact everyday actions and decisions have on the environment and the global climate.
Our Commissioner, Prof Daniella Tilbury, is named as an advisor to the EU and supported the preparation of both these policy and strategic documents.
The staff handbook accompanies these policy documents and is used to assist with their implementation. The handbook cites Gibraltar’s Futures Forward Academy as a leading example of work in this area. It provides information as a case study and a link to the OCSD website.
